Lamb sausage alert. It’s finally here!

For those of you who have been waiting (and asking!) for our lamb sausage, we finally have it in stock.

We have two varieties:
Rosemary, Red W**e & Garlic
Merguez

Both are our own recipes, made with our locally raised lamb and prepared for us locally by Bogdala’s. You won’t find these sausages anywhere else.

Our lamb sausage is normally a spring event, but this year it’s arriving a little later than usual. If you’ve been waiting for it, now’s your chance!

Some farm jobs make you wonder whether fixing the old thing is actually easier than building a new one.

This year, getting the sheep onto different areas of pasture meant Brody spent a fair bit of time bringing old fence lines back into service. Around here, that means finding your way through years of vegetation, pulling old barbed wire out of the growth, and figuring out what can still be repaired and what really can’t.

It’s not the most picturesque part of rotational grazing, but there’s quite a bit of work that happens before the sheep ever make it onto fresh pasture.

It’s that time of year! Our garlic has been harvested, cured, cleaned and is ready for your kitchen.

Garlic is one of those crops that takes a while around here. We plant it in the fall, wait for it to come up in the spring, tend it through the summer, and then harvest and cure it before it is finally ready to sell. And after all of that, we really do think locally grown garlic is worth it. The flavour is just so much better than what you typically find at the grocery store.

The other nice thing about garlic is that there’s no need to use it all right away. Our garlic stores really well, so if you follow the storage directions, you can keep enjoying this year’s harvest for months.

We offer our garlic a few different ways, but our 1 lb storage bags are probably the most popular. They’re what we recommend if you want to stock up for the winter.

Fall event season is here!

Over the next few months, we’ll be popping up at a few special events around Thunder Bay, starting with Good Harvest tomorrow on Red River Road.

We basically pick up our booth from the market and move it, which means you will find yarn, felting supplies, tallow soaps, and other seasonal goods. Each event will be a little different depending on what we have available (tomorrow there will be garlic!). The only thing we don’t bring is the freezer items.

If you’re heading to Good Harvest, the Thunder Bay Medieval Faire, or Craft Revival this fall, come find us and say hello!

This picture looks kind of boring. A tractor with a mower attachment cutting the grass in a pasture.

But for us, it is one more step towards better pastures.

Last year, I learned a lot about what was growing in the pastures and a bit more about the health of the pastures. As a result, one of the things we are going to be doing, for as long as it makes sense, is mowing a pasture after the sheep move through it.

Sheep prefer some plants over others, which means the plants they don’t eat can start to take over. Mowing after they have finished grazing will help cut down some of those undesirable weeds and give the plants we want more of a chance to grow.

It is time consuming. This pasture took four hours. But hopefully, over time, it will be worth it.

Our Felter’s Boxes are restocked at The TBay Market • Farmer's Market • Open Year Round!

This round includes our standard boxes with a mix of locks and roving, plus a few small boxes filled entirely with roving. Everything comes from our own sheep and is processed right here in our wool mill.

Felter’s Boxes are a great option for crafters looking for a range of dimensional colour and texture; they also make great gifts!
