Listen up folks! Bidding is now open for an extremely Single Vendor Auction titled 'The Cellar of an Englishman'.

This auction features 170+ amazing lots packed with classic NZ reds focusing on Syrah and Bordeaux blends from Hawke's Bay and Waiheke. It features some stunning producers, many of which we rarely see at auction including single vineyard bottlings from Church Road, a generous offering of Man O' War Wines and wines from the likes of Puriri Hills, Te Mata and Trinity Hill.

Better yet there are a healthy number of wines from stunning vintages like the iconic (in both HB and Waiheke) 2013!

It also has some no-longer-in-production wines from Esk Valley (Winemakers Reserve), Rod McDonald (back vintages of Trademark Syrah) and Sacred Hill (Helmsman and Deerstalkers Syrah).

Gaja, Barolo - described as "Italy's most renowned and dynamic wine personality" and "the man who dragged Piedmont into the modern world", Angelo Gaja reinvented both Barbaresco and Barolo by incorporating modern winemaking into the production of classic Nebbiolo expressions, in turn gaining International recognition for both his wines and the regions. No stranger of controversy he notably declassified all but one of his wines from 1996, frustrated by the strict rules of the region. While considered a modernist, his wines blend modern and traditional techniques and widely regarded as masterful expressions of a truly wonderful grape.

Produttori del Barbaresco, Barbaresco - Established in 1958, when a parish priest organised 19 growers into a collective to make and market their wines, initially simply to survive the pressures of post-WW2 poverty. Today, Produttori del Babaresco remain one of the worlds last truly great co-op producers and is the ultimate reference point for classic Barbaresco. They have multiple single-site bottlings, all of which are incredibly rewarding wines.

Masseto, Bolgheri - First released in 1986 Masseto, made by Tenuta dell'Ornellaia (makers of the benchmark Super-Tuscan Ornellaia) is one of the world's finest expressions of Merlot. The wine is named for both the hill the vineyard is situated on which overlooks Tuscany's Mediterranean coast and the soil, described as "rock-hard clusters of blue clay". It is a powerful, expressive and wine, and has become a true icon.

This week LANGTONS Australia have unveiled their first ever Classification of International Wine.

=> winetitles.com.au/langtons-unveils-its-inaugural-classification-of-international-wine/

This builds on the success of their Classification of Australian wine which was published in 1991 (they are currently on their 8th edition, published in 2018) and benchmarks secondary market support (over a minimum of 10 vintages) for Australian wines which they describe as "the most respected secondary market guide to fine and luxury Australian wines" and features 21 "First Classified Wines" and a further 79 "Classified Wines". It should be noted that this is similar to how Bordeaux's Cru Classé system which dates to 1855 was created.

Their new International Classification benchmarks 160 International wines which in the words of Langton's are the "the most traded international wines in Australia". These will, unquestionably be of interest to investors and collectors here in Aotearoa.

France dominates the list (with 122 entries) and is followed by Italy (with 17 entries). Of the French listings Burgundy has the most (57), followed by Bordeaux (37) and Champagne (14).

Happily little old New Zealand receives the third largest number of entries (9) featuring wines from Ata Rangi, Bell Hill, Dry River Wines, Felton Road (with four entries), Kusuda and Te Mata Estate Winery.

Pinot Noir dominates these, making up seven of nine of the listed wines with two other entries, Felton Road Block 2 Chardonnay and the iconic Bordeaux Blend, Te Mata Coleraine. Interestingly, the variety/style that features most prominently across the whole list is Chardonnay with 23 listings.
