Green Gate Farms Celebrating 20 years! A family-run certified organic, community farm cultivating vegetables and flowers. Volunteers welcome!

Saturday farm stand (inside historic barn) and Wednesday CSA pick-up beside tiny home community. Guests are welcome to shop and relax at our certified organic, historic, community-based farm. … until Saturday, October 10. Given the flash flood, heavy rain warnings for this evening, we are postponing our Monthly Free Farm Tour. Instead, come join us and Goldie the Goose at our fall kickoff party October 10 where we will celebrate cooler temperatures, our fall season and our local farmers who have come together to offer weekly shares of vegetables, meat and dairy for pick up at our farm on Wednesdays through January. What an incredible group of volunteers we’ve had lately. We are so grateful for these people who keep the farm humming along despite extreme temperatures, nasty weeds, and other challenges. Thank you!

We’re having a party- and you’re invited!

In partnership with Central Texas Farmers Co-op and Texas Center for Local Food we invite you to join us as we celebrate the start of the Fall Season! On October 10th we’ll have extended farm-stand hours from 9-2, live bluegrass from Livermore, some tasty food and beverages, a honey tasting, and a chance to meet your Central Texas Co-op Farmers who will be providing delicious local food for our Wednesday CSA pickups.

One of the great joys of running a farm for 20 years is the opportunity to mentor people who have volunteered or worked here then watch as they blossom into farmers (like Matt and Greg who work with us now. One of the ways we provide mentorships is to offer Workshare memberships each season. Our fall season Flower team is shaping up well and we have room for a couple more on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Swing by this Saturday’s Farm stand and we can tell you more about it.

It’s been quite a toasty, crispy journey getting the Fall season off the ground…yet…behold! We have real life Fall veggies ready for your eating pleasure. We’re gearing up for our Fall Season Launch Party on October 10th, but in the meantime, come on out the next few Saturdays to get a preview of the season. If this heat has you down and you are going stir crazy, come join us on the farm as we get ready for our fall season. You’re welcome to Volunteer three mornings a week or attend monthly events like our First Thursday free farm tour or our Homestead club meeting (every second Wednesday, 5:30-6:30) where you can learn about our bird and gardening clubs.
Tomorrow we will be discussing/demonstrating ways to care for the soil prior to planting— this includes aeration (thank you armadillos!), cover cropping and tarping.
Feel free to come early and take a stroll through Village Farm Tiny Homes to see how housing and farming work together and meet our incredible neighbors.

One highlight of our summer has been meeting with people who are leading innovative communities that prioritize health, wellness, beauty, gardening, farming, and community. Nieuwland Meent, a housing cooperative project in Amsterdam, is a resident-led affordable housing project financed through a combination of city and bank loans as well as member contributions. Amsterdam’s goal is to create more cooperative housing options, and this pilot project in urban living is an inspiring example that puts community, sustainability, and social inclusivity first. Skip and I led a gardening workshop teaching the importance of seasonal cover crops. We had a great time staying in the guest room, meeting residents and supporting this resident-run affordable housing Initiative. Be sure to visit when you are in Amsterdam!
