To see it is to be it.
As my career in farming grows and I continue to meet new people, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of purpose. I constantly meet children and adults—especially those of Black and Brown communities—who come to the farm or call me just to say how proud they are of me and what we are doing.
Daily, weekly, I receive constant encouragement. It gives me hope, it gives me strength, and it verifies that you don’t always pick your path—sometimes, your path chooses you.
I never knew that one day I would be Farmer Vanessa. I never knew I’d be caring for animals, learning how to care for my community, and learning how to care for myself. I never knew that I could be so effective in shaping the minds of children, changing the world, and impacting our food system.
Many times, I think our food system is really out to kill us. Every day it’s a struggle for me to manage my health and change the way that I do things, but recently I realized that if you want to see change, you have to be the change.
This farming journey has stretched us so thin that it has brought me to my knees. Some might wonder: Why do you continue? Why do you struggle? What makes you do this? Why not just go get a 9-to-5? Number one: I have too much to give to the world to build somebody else’s dream. So, I build my own on faith, determination, consistency, and hard work.
Are there days that I want to give up? Absolutely. But there is something in my heart, something in my bones, and something in my body that continues to say: ā€œPush forward. This too shall pass.ā€ When you don’t come from generations of farming and you have to learn everything from scratch, it is a massive struggle. But if you have the strength, the courage, the determination, the willpower, and the sheer grit to say, ā€œI am going to do this,ā€ you have no choice but to succeed.
So, I leave you with this message this Sunday morning: Put your heart and soul into everything that you do, and you will have no choice but to win.
You determine what winning is. ✨

I was in the grocery store this morning which I rarely visit but some staples I gotta grab.

Well… I like to wonder into the meat section sometimes just to look. The gentlemen next to me says ā€œYou’re better off buying a farmā€ - I chuckled & said you’re right!

Big news (and a little bit of a space crisis) at Willowbrook Farms!🚜🌾

Hey friends! So, we have a wonderful problem on our hands: thanks to all of you, we are officially bursting at the seams. Our little farm store is packed to the max, and we simply can’t fit everything anymore!

Instead of slowing down, we’re ready to go bigger—literally.

Back this winter, I went to a Farm Stop conference and completely fell in love with the concept. If you haven't heard of a Farm Stop, it's essentially a year-round, indoor community market where local farmers team up to sell their goods under one roof, setting their own prices and supporting each other. I came home with a fire lit and realized: our big pole barn is the *perfect* place to build this!

Our dream is to move the market into the pole barn and open a collaborative, membership-based Farm Stop.

We want to partner with our favorite neighboring farms and local businesses so you can grab your Willowbrook favorites alongside fresh local cheeses, baked goods, and veggies from other nearby growers, all in one stop.

The membership model would help us fund the setup (like big display coolers!), give our partner farmers predictable support, and lock in some awesome exclusive perks for you guys.

But before we start cleaning out the barn, we want to know: are you in?!

Would you love to see a Willowbrook Farm Stop?

What local goodies would be on your ultimate wishlist?

Drop your thoughts in the comments—we want to build this with you!
