Up at 5 a.m. to haul the last cut of the season to the yard and get it put away…but an early start to the day means we get the best views!

✏️ 🍎 Ian’s “First Day of 8th Grade” photos yesterday. Oops, guess we will try again tomorrow.
🐄 He did however have a great day exhibiting his calf at the MN State Fair in the Midwest Fall National Holstein show. Despite getting sick during 4H encampment he rallied and got her in the ring.
🏆 SamHolm Sidekick Seven- 5th place in her class, 4th place Junior. There were 23 quality exhibitors in her class so to make top 5 was a huge achievement for us!

Another Dodge County fair is in the books!

We love showing here but it conflicts with Rice County often so when Ian can be there and show, he does. This year was hot, but they made it happen!

Ian showed Jive in the Holstein show and came out RC of the cow show.

Mixed Ish came in clutch and won Champion Milking Shorthorn, RC Colored Breed Cow and after being hot, tired and over it…still helped Ian pull a 3rd place in showmanship which he was totally happy with given how hard she had worked today.

Come see Ian at the Rice County Fair next week!

Just in time for the Rice County Fair next week!

In case anyone is wondering where Ian gets his love for showing dairy cattle from…

Check out this throw back photo of little Ben! He’s doing a great job of keeping that head up and keeping those legs under his heifer! 🫣😉

Ian’s heifer, SamHolm SideKick Seven, affectionately known as “Seven” was born with the very obvious number 7 on her forehead. But that isn’t the only reason that she received that name.
To fully understand, here’s a bit of her history. You see, Seven comes from a line of “denim jeans” names. Her grand-dam was known as Miss Me, and her dam is Judy Blue. Having a half-sister named Guess, we knew we had to continue!
It was suggested to Ian by yours truly, months before she was even born, that maybe we should name her Seven due to the popular brand of jeans called “7 For All Mankind” that have a 7 stitched on the pockets. Ian wasn’t into it, and decided to wait until she was born to name her.
During his morning round to check on Judy Blue, Ian found she had calved unassisted one sunny December morning. And it was VERY clear to Ian upon his first good look at her that she definitely chose her name. And that his mom is always right! 😉
We are excited for their show season to start!
