Today, Paul and Dana were happy to join Billy Bope and Breanna Reed for a solar grazing panel at the 2026 Hoosier Sheep Symposium at Vincennes University. 🫶🏻

We love opportunities to connect with fellow sheep producers, compare notes, and talk about what solar grazing can offer farmers and their flocks.

From Indiana to Wisconsin—one of our Sunovis Ranch rams has a new home! 🐏

Last weekend, a couple drove all the way from Wisconsin to bring home one of our Katahdin rams. After doing his research, this farmer reached out to us looking for a ram to put to work in his flock. A few conversations later, they arrived with a custom-built setup in the back of their truck for the trip north!

The best part? Getting this photo of our handsome guy settled into his new pasture. ❤️

This feels like a milestone for our little ranch. Paul has spent years making thoughtful breeding decisions and working hard to raise healthy, high-quality Katahdin sheep. Having someone seek us out and travel that far for one of our rams means a lot.

We’re proud of the flock we’re building—and delighted to see this guy’s next chapter begin. 🫶

We’re headed to Vincennes this Saturday for the 2026 Hoosier Sheep Symposium! 🐑☀️

Paul and Dana will be talking solar grazing alongside fellow Indiana solar grazier Billy Bope, who grazes at the Mammoth Solar project, and Breanna Reed, from the American Solar Grazing Association (ASGA).

We’re grateful to Emma O’Brien and the Indiana Sheep Association for inviting Sunovis Ranch to be part of the day—and we’re looking forward to spending time with sheep producers from around the state.

What if Indiana had one million acres of permanent agriculture? 🌱

This year’s rainy weather got us thinking about that question.

While wet fields created challenges for many row-crop farmers, here at Sunovis Ranch, the grass just kept growing. Our sheep had plenty of forage, and our pastures recovered quickly after grazing.

It was a simple reminder that different agricultural systems face different risks—and that diversity can make our agricultural landscape stronger.

In this month’s blog, Paul Cummings shares our vision for one million acres of permanent agriculture in Indiana: not just sheep pasture, but grazing, silvopasture, perennial crops, nut trees, solar grazing, and more.

And no, we’re not suggesting replacing row crops. 😊 We’re imagining more ways for Indiana acres to be productive.

The whole Sunovis Ranch crew is officially solar grazing certified! 🐑☀️

Earlier this summer, all five members of our family headed to northern Indiana for three days of hands-on training through the American Solar Grazing Association (ASGA). And now the badges have arrived: Dana, Paul, PJ, Owen, and Susan have each earned ASGA Solar Grazing Certification. 😊

Solar grazing has already taught our family an incredible amount—and we're committed to continuing to learn, improve, and invest in doing this work well.

We're especially excited about what that growing knowledge can mean beyond our own ranch: more opportunities for farmers and graziers, stronger partnerships with solar developers, and new possibilities for rural communities across Indiana.

What a great day at the 2026 Indiana Land Use & Agrivoltaics Summit at Purdue University’s Beck Agricultural Center!

We learned a lot, met some new folks, caught up with old friends, and enjoyed plenty of good conversation about agriculture, land use, solar, and the growing opportunities around agrivoltaics in Indiana.

These are important conversations for our state, and Sunovis Ranch is proud to be part of them. 🌱☀️🐑

What a week! 😀

Our family recently returned from the American Solar Grazing Association’s certification training, and we’re excited to share one of the biggest milestones yet—all five members of the Cummings family are now officially ASGA Solar Grazing Certified! 🙌🏻

Even more valuable than the certification, though, was everything we learned. We spent three days hearing from farmers, researchers, veterinarians, and solar industry leaders about flock health, genetics, vegetation management, technology, and the future of agrivoltaics.

We came home inspired—and with lots of ideas we’ll be putting into practice here at Sunovis Ranch.

We’re heading home from this week’s American Solar Grazing Association training feeling inspired, grateful…and officially 100% solar grazing certified! 😄

All five members of the Cummings family completed the training in beautiful northern Indiana, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead. We learned a lot, laughed a lot, and are excited to put it all into practice back home at Sunovis Ranch. 🐑☀️

The future of solar grazing is bright, and we’re extremely grateful to be part of it. 💚

One of the highlights of our family's recent trip to Northern California was spending a day with the incredible team at NextPower in Fremont. ☀️

A huge thank you to Matthias and Ezra for welcoming our family of five with such generosity and hospitality. We loved learning more about the innovative work the team is doing to advance agrivoltaics (AgriPV) and create new opportunities for agriculture and solar to thrive together.

From strawberries and vegetables growing beneath solar panels to the exciting research and ideas the team has in the works, it was a wonderful reminder that the future of farming and renewable energy is being shaped by people who are willing to ask, "What if?" 😊
