This is our first time hatching eggs from a hen. In the past, we bought chicks or used an incubator. Both have pros and cons, but the biggest pro is seeing a momma love on and raise her babies. No heat lamps,
No special chick feed, no special brooder coop to protect them.

We like to lamb in March. Winter lambing is tough on the ewes, the lambs, and the farmer. Today, we separated our big ram, Hondo, from the ewes. We brought over 2 young rams to keep him company. We will add some more next month.

Besides the beautiful arrangement from Tracy, the rest of this was put together with little bits growing randomly on our property.

Tracy taught me that the world can call it a w**d, but if you do good things with it, it can be beautiful.

My favorite part is the stitching on the binding.

Quilt progress uodate

The binding is mostly attached. I need to watch a video on how to join the ends. Do that and then fluo and sew down the binding on the front.

It is looking reasonable to finish today.

What did I learn yesterday? Most people know quilting involves a lot of cutting and sewing, but the IRONING! Lots of time behind the iron. I got a new-ish iron because mine got all gunked up and kept spreading the gunk on the nice clean quilt. My local thrift store had a beauty of one new in box for $20. This iron is FANTASTIC!

Quilt progress update.

Broken glasses and binding strips.

I was able to finish sewing down the back of the last sashing strip. It was in the center of the quilt, so it was extremely hard. My glasses are a casualty of trying to relieve some weight by putting the quilt over my shoulder.

I cut the binding. I decided to use 2.5-inch strips. They are all sewn together, and now I'm ironing them in half.

All the rows are joined. I have the back of one row to sew down the sashing and then start making the binding.

The pulling from the weight of the quilt is massive. It makes my seams wonky with lots of puckers.

I have decided the value of a homemade quilt is 100% underestimated.
