Our farm in Hamilton is closed for the season but we are busy taking care of the strawberry crop that we planted in September. I’m already craving fresh-picked strawberries! Only about 5 more months !🍓

Pumpkin picking update for the next 5 days;

Right now we still have reservation time-slots available for upick pumpkins for Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Thank you all who have visited our farm this fall.
Reservations are $25 per family unit (not individual) and include your first $25 of pumpkins. They can be made on our website at www.wegmeyerfarms.com under the reservation tab. Reservations are non refundable and non transferable. Upick pumpkins are at our home farm in Hamilton only. (38299 Hughesville Rd. Hamilton, VA)
We’ve still got a great selection of about 50+ varieties of pumpkins along with a bunch of newly added local items this year in our expanded 1700s stone barn store. This fall season and strawberry season in the spring, we have gone to a reservation system to make sure we can give you and your family a safe and fun environment to enjoy the farm. Although it’s not perfect, it definitely eliminates the potential chaos that could occur without it. Thank you all for your patience and support. Our family wishes everyone a happy fall season! 🎃

Pumpkin update for Thursday, September 24 (and the next several days)
The cool weather brought us some early frost this past week and that means it’s time to get in the fall spirit and plan a trip to the pumpkin patch.
Like Heilooms? We’ve got 55+ varieties including many types of Jack-0-lanterns and other gourd types. This year we are reservation only much like strawberry season was earlier this spring. It’s working well so far as we’ve put all the available dates up on our website to choose your day and time. We are open Thursday - Monday (closed Tuesday and Wednesday)
The serenity of being out in the field in the country amongst thousands of pumpkins is a pretty cool thing to experience with your family.
Here is a link to our website to make your reservation www.wegmeyerfarms.com
A few varieties pictured in the pile is a silver moon, green cushaw, Long Island cheese, jarrahdale and gladiator.

This happy Strawberry Farmer was excited to see strawberries on this year’s birthday cake! For the past 40-something years (special thanks to my mom and wife Harriet) I’ve gotten a John Deere cake and this year’s was one of the best yet.

June 24th
Our 2020 Strawberry Harvest Season is officially over. The recent heavy rains and high humidity ended it a few days earlier than we would have liked but nonetheless it was a season we will never forget. What started out as a huge worry about not being able to be open....then turned into an overwhelming level of community support.....which then brought on our website crashing daily and going through 3 host servers.....and meanwhile our strawberry plants continued to produce delicious strawberries for 8 weeks! But through it all there was one factor that stood out above everything else: YOU. Our friends-neighbors-community-all of you who shared your happiness with us while visiting our Gilbert’s Corner market for pre-picked or one of our upick strawberry fields at our Home Farm in Hamilton or Oatlands in Leesburg. Our family (me...Tyler,Harriet, Torsten, Tucker & Colden) wish to express a heartfelt THANK YOU for visiting our farm and trusting us to provide your family with a safe environment to create a memorable experience of picking your own strawberries.
We are already busy caring for the fall pumpkin crop and hope to see your family in the fall season.
We wish you a safe and fun summer with your loved ones. ❤️
Have a berry good evening everyone! 🍓🎃

9am update: we are basically sold out of strawberries for the day. Picking this morning was more challenging than I thought it was going to be.
I will be bringing only about 10 buckets up to the white tent at about 11. We still have lots of donuts and jam and ice cream

Strawberry update for Wednesday, June 24.

We are very close to the end of our strawberry harvest season.
On Wednesday we will be at our Gilbert’s Corner location from 9-1.
We will have *some* pre-picked strawberries as well as fresh baked donuts, fresh strawberry jam and Gruto’s soft serve ice cream.
*not sure how many buckets of strawberries we will have as the picking is very scattered and the recent rains have damaged a decent amount. Once we start picking at daybreak I will have a better idea of supply and will update this post if needed.

Our Oatlands upick location sold out of a limited number of reservation slots this evening and tomorrow may be the last day for picking at Oatlands. Possibly one more day after tomorrow but we will see.

Our home farm location is closed tomorrow and we are hoping for 1 or 2 more days of picking there. Tomorrow evening I will walk the field again and determine if we can open at the home farm for Thursday. The berries are super sweet and can be found with patience but it’s much much more challenging than normal. Also the recent heavy rains didn’t help things.

It’s amazing that strawberry season has been this long. A “normal” year is 4-5 weeks and this year we are on week 8. Thank you to all you strawberry lovers who have come to our farm(s) this year to participate in harvest one way or another.

Have a berry good evening everyone! 🍓

06/23/2020

Strawberry update for Tuesday, June 23
We will be closed on Tuesday for ripening and drying out from the recent heavy rains. We hope to have at least 1 field location open for Wednesday but will post an update tomorrow for Wednesday’s status.
Have a berry good evening everyone. 🍓

06/22/2020

Strawberry update for Monday, June 22
We will be closed at all 3 of our field locations for ripening on Monday. On Monday evening I will walk the fields and evaluate the supply situation for potential Tuesday picking and will do an FB post to update everyone.

Strawberry Update for Father’s Day, June 21

Pictured below are two incredible Dads. Also incredible is that both them shared each other’s names. Fred Ernest Wegmeyer and Fred Ernest Pimm. Sadly, a little over a year ago we lost Mr. Pimm to cancer. Harriet and I have been so fortunate to have lived a life with such easy going, fun and caring Dads. Not only did they teach us about farming by both being dairy farmers and the work ethic it took to be successful, they taught us by example the importance of being the best person and parent we can be. ❤️

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads!
Tomorrow will be Donuts for Dad at all 3 of our farm locations!
Currently, there are still some reservation slots available at both our Home farm in Hamilton and Oatlands field in Leesburg. Reservations can be made here:
https://wegmeyerfarms.com/strawberry-picking-reservations/

At Gilbert’s Corner we will be open 9-3ish with the following:
- fresh from the field pre-picked strawberries *
- fresh Baked donuts (flavors will be a mixed box of strawberry frosted, cinnamon sugar and blueberry glazed)
-fresh strawberry jam
-Gruto’s soft serve ice cream featuring the flavor STRAWBERRY made with our own strawberries.
*our pro pickers will begin picking at daybreak and we will have a decent amount for opening at 9 and then about every hour or so I will continue to bring more up from the field to the white tent.
This may be our last weekend at Gilberts.

We are late in the 4th quarter of our magical strawberry harvest season. It’s winding down but there still is some magic left.

Have a berry good evening everyone. 🍓

Strawberry Picking Reservations – Wegmeyer Farms

1:20 update. We are sold out of pre-picked strawberries at Gilbert’s Corner for the day. Will have more tomorrow.

Strawberry update for Saturday, June 20.

This year we have been very blessed with a longer than normal strawberry season. Most years it’s about 5 weeks long. We’ve had a year as short as 3 weeks. This year we are on our 7th week of picking and about to match our previous long of 8 weeks back in 2017. Each week and each day actually is a different picking experience with the plant production cycle changing all the time. Right now for being in our 7th week, picking is pretty good. You have to have more patience at this stage of the season but finding great berries is definitely achievable and taking your family to pick your own delicious food still makes a memorable, rewarding experience.
We still have some reservation slots available for tomorrow (Saturday). Both at our Home Farm in Hamilton and Oatlands in Leesburg field locations. You can find them here:

https://wegmeyerfarms.com/strawberry-picking-reservations/
Fresh baked donuts will be available at both field locations.

We will be open from 9-4 at our Gilbert’s Corner market location on Saturday. We will have the following:
- fresh picked strawberries *
- fresh baked donuts (flavors are a mixed box of strawberry frosted, cinnamon sugar and lemon frosted)
-fresh strawberry jam
-fresh made Gruto’s soft serve ice cream featuring the flavor STRAWBERRY made with our very own strawberries.
* our pro pickers will start picking at daybreak to have some berries ready by 9. I will be bringing up more from the field about every hour or so until about 1. This may be our last weekend at Gilbert’s Corner.

Thank you to all who have participated in our harvest season in one way or another. And for your love of strawberries!
Have a berry good evening everyone. 🍓

12noon update: we are all sold out for today.
Because of the stray showers that came through we weren’t able to pick as much as I originally thought we would. We will be back at Gilberts Corner tomorrow.

Good morning from the strawberry field.
8:30am update for Friday, June 19

A brief rain shower this morning delayed us a bit but we are picking some nice berries (pic below) for our Gilbert’s Corner market location. We will be open from 9-1(maybe longer if we still have berries). Also baking fresh donuts currently.

We left our reservations open for upick today at our Home Farm in Hamilton and Oatlands in Leesburg.
We still have some open slots available for today. Lots of nice berries in the field at both locations. The picking is good. Here is a link to reserve a spot to pick today:
https://wegmeyerfarms.com/strawberry-picking-reservations/

I expect to see the sun this morning and any threat of rain would be brief and not widespread.

Strawberry Update for Friday, June 19

As a farmer, a good portion of our success or failures is because of the weather. My iPhone 11 is constantly checking the forecast(s) all day everyday. Today’s forecast was definitely wrong. It turned out to be an incredibly beautiful day with blue skies and sunshine. Some forecasts are spot on but it seems like a higher percentage are not.
Tomorrow I think we will have good weather at least through the early afternoon so we have front loaded all of our upick reservations for tomorrow (Friday). They were made available at 6pm tonight and there are still slots available for tomorow at both our Oatlands in Leesburg and Home Farm in Hamilton.
Reservations can be made here:
https://wegmeyerfarms.com/strawberry-picking-reservations/
Saturday’s reservations will be available starting at about 6pm tomorrow.

Also tomorrow(Friday) we will be open at our Gilbert’s Corner location from 9-1ish with fresh pre-picked strawberries, fresh baked donuts, fresh strawberry jam and Gruto’s soft serve ice cream featuring the flavor strawberry made with our strawberries! I will update this post if needed about the berry supply situation tomorrow as I don’t know what it will be for sure until our professional pickers start picking at daybreak.
I’m sure we will have a decent amount as we didn’t pick today. We are in the 4th quarter of the season and supply is much more unpredictable.

Thank you all for your love of strawberries and reading this post to the end.
Have a berry good evening. 🍓

Hi! How’s the strawberries at Gilbert’s Corner right now? Came by at 10:30am this morning and you were out. Thanks !
Today I made homemade strawberry syrup. For dessert tonight I took one of your homemade donuts, added the strawberry syrup, put on some ice cream and added whipped cream. I now have a very happy hubby.
Will you please let me know if you use pesticide at your farm? I cannot find your farming practice, so any information you can provide or shared will be very helpful. Thank you in advance!
Might want to wait till later to go to Gilberts so they can catch up. First batch of berries sold out to first 5 in line. Waiting for next batch in line.....
How upsetting! I’ve been sitting here the last 3 hours, checking every 10 minutes, waiting for times to post for tomorrow and was just looking at the main screen that said times pending, not realizing they were posted through another page and already sold out!
Gilbert’s only has donuts till later today. Found that out after 40 min drive there☹️
This week’s strawberry CSA baking project: chocolate cake with whipped cream and fresh berries. Designed and decorated by Guy, 4, and Mac, 2. It’s delicious!
We loved social distance picking at Oatlands today! So many strawberries and they practically just fell into our hands!
We bought some strawberries the other day and they are delicious! But how do you recommend storing them - in the refrigerator or on the countertop?
Your U-Pick sign up is not working again. It fails in btw each time I try to choose a new time slot to buy. And sometimes after I have "cleared" my choice and chosen a new time, it tells me I must make a selection. I know you are aware of problems - just giving you a few more details that might help.
How do we get through to make a reservation for picking? Website is down and no one answers phone. Anything available for Saturday afternoon May 16? Or how can we make arrangements to drive through to get berries? Any information is appreciated.
How do I order donuts? I want to come out to the Gilbert’s location but don’t want to make a mistake and not order if needed. Also what’s the address I should use to find you?
