The winery & vineyards are founded in extremes & thrive on the rugged terrain from which the winemakers craft luxury wines. Founder Donald Hess began building the Hess Collection legacy over 40 years ago with the determination to defy convention and pursue winemaking at elevation. In 1978, he established The Hess Collection Winery on the site of one of the region’s oldest wineries on Mount Veeder. Today, The Hess Collection continues to produce complex, elegant wines sourced from estate vineyards high on Mount Veeder and in the far reaches of the Napa Valley. It is from these rugged landscapes that The Hess Collection winemaking team crafts exceptional luxury wines. Guided by Donald Hess’ founding philosophy, The Hess Collection is committed to honor the land and return what we take through sustainable farming and winemaking practices.
