🐴❤️ WE ARE SO EXCITED TO WELCOME EDMOND TRANSITION ACADEMY BACK TO 3F RANCH! ❤️🐴
A new school year means one of our favorite programs is starting back up!
Throughout the week, students from Edmond Transition Academy come to the ranch twice a day to work alongside us, participate in occupational and life-skills activities, experience equine-assisted riding therapy, and—of course—spend time building relationships with our horses. 🐴
But this program is about so much more than barn chores or riding horses.
These young adults are preparing to transition from school into the adult world, and the ranch gives them a place to practice real-life skills in a safe, encouraging environment where their work truly matters.
🌾 Some of the things our students participate in include:
• Cleaning and organizing tack
• Filling hay nets and helping prepare feed
• Cleaning buckets and water troughs
• Grooming horses
• Sweeping and maintaining barn areas
• Organizing supplies
• Helping with simple barn and ranch projects
• Learning proper horse handling and safety
• Following multi-step instructions and routines
• Working alongside staff, volunteers, and one another
• Equine-assisted riding and therapeutic activities with our horses
Every task has a purpose.
When a student fills a water bucket, a horse depends on that water.
When they clean tack, someone will use that equipment.
When they groom a horse, they're learning patience, awareness, coordination, and responsibility.
When they complete a task from beginning to end, they're practicing skills that can follow them into future employment and greater independence.
❤️ And then there are the horses themselves.
Through our equine-assisted riding activities, students have opportunities to work on things like balance, coordination, motor planning, communication, confidence, emotional regulation, focus, and following directions—all while developing a relationship with a horse.
For some students, success might look like completing an entire barn task independently.
For another, it might be remembering the next step without prompting.
For another, it may be communicating clearly with a teammate.
And for another, it may be sitting tall on a horse, finding their balance, giving a cue, and realizing:
“I can do this.”
That moment matters.
Horses don't care about a diagnosis, disability, learning difference, or how quickly someone completes a task. They respond to patience, consistency, kindness, body language, and trust.
Our goal isn't simply to give these young adults something to do.
Our goal is to give them opportunities to discover what they CAN do.
As they move closer to adulthood, we want them leaving the ranch with more confidence in their abilities, more experience working as part of a team, practical skills they can carry into the workplace and community, and a greater understanding that they have something valuable to contribute.
At 3F Ranch, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to work, learn, serve, belong, experience the healing connection of a horse, and have purpose.
