We focus our winemaking on vineyard designated Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Goat Bubbles sparkling wine with five expressions: Rosé, Crémant, Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs and Brut Cuvée. Our

wines are authentic, easy, approachable and perfectly balanced to pair with food. We don’t own any vineyards but after 40+ years in the business, winemaker Norm Yost has developed close working relationships with quality growers. We’ve carefully chosen our vineyards to represent different terroir with fruit that offers a wide range of textures and flavors. Norm has been making wine for over 40 vintages and has a particular passion for Pinot Noir. In 2000, he launched his own label, Flying Goat Cellars, specializing in vineyard designated Pinots from California’s Central Coast. Norm shared his passion with Kate Griffith by courting her with his first release of Goat Bubbles in 2006. We don’t know if it was the bubbles or the winemaker’s charm but it culminated in a marriage and a family of wines. Now Flying Goat Cellars produces about 2,500 cases a year and includes three labels: Flying Goat, Goat Bubbles and YNOT. Flying Goat focuses on vineyard designated Pinot Noirs and Pinot Gris. Goat Bubbles offers five vineyard designated sparkling wines: Rosé, Crémant, Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs and Brut Cuvée. YNOT offers both a Pinot Noir and a Chardonnay, blended from the finest of Santa Barbara County vineyards.

Sometimes the Sta. Rita Hills are a work of art, removed from the world of time and space in an ideal existence. The vineyards that we source from in our business are driven towards a common goal: working together to create an ideal wine. Every year is an imagining of possibilities, with a new chance to rewrite history. And once that vintage is done, something irrevocable has been made. We'll keep on working towards creating wines that are as wonderful in the mouth as the green scenes of the nearby vines are for our eyes.

In all the minutes of all the hours of all the days, we appreciate having a quiet moment. No need to rally with a crowd or be boisterous and loud; just to let Sunday afternoon settle on the skin as we turn our thoughts to the coming week. Our Tasting Room doors are open for the rest of the afternoon, as well as from 11 AM - 4 PM on Memorial Day tomorrow for those who are able to stop in during this holiday of remembrance. Give yourself a moment with our 2018 Pinot Noir Dijon and you may find that its lush, ripe nose of currants and stirrings of forward-striding tannins will easily carry you into whatever the day may bring.

Memorial Day weekend has begun, and we would like to take a moment to look in the direction of the past. To honor those who give their bodies in the face of conflict. To all of you, we owe thanks and reverence for the lives paid at too dear a cost. We listen to the stories of the past every time that we open a bottle; may we all do the same as we regard the dimensions and directions that our modern world has taken.

Our first winemaker dinner collaboration with The Village Inn was more than we could have asked for (thanks for capturing the kodak memories, Village Inn)! From seasoned connoisseurs to curious first-timers of Flying Goat and Dave's Place, there were smiles all along the tables and sidelines. Some wines and foods just seem to be made for each other, and those kismet combinations beg to be shared. Thank you for coming together with us to enjoy aromatic bouquets of Pinot Noir, strummings of acoustic guitar, and the camaraderie of gathering as a community. Remember to stop in and visit us at the Tasting Room this weekend, including on Memorial Day, if you couldn't get enough of the distinctive and sophisticated vintages that graced the tables at the event.

Maybe we're stirring awake with the approach of Monday, or maybe feeling the loss of another weekend taken. In either case, the coming week waits with the openness of opportunity. Winemaker Norm Yost spends his workdays in the cellar in the intent of crafting Pinot Noir wines--complex with berry fragrances and flavorful velvety tannins--alongside refreshingly fruity and floral sparkling Goat Bubbles. This coming Thursday, you'll be able to experience the full spectrum of aromas and tastes at our Winemaker Dinner hosted by Dave's Place at the Village Inn (). Tickets are still available for those who wish to join Norm in Lompoc for a four-course series of Mediterranean eats alongside vineyard-designated Brut Rose and reds. See the Upcoming Events page on our website for more info!
