🧄🌞The preparation of the 2027 garlic patches in the Skrede field. Randall moldboard plowed the field first. Next, he used the disc hallow to break the soil, as shown in the picture. He will then use the tiller to complete preparing the field for planting.
Moldboarding is also called a bottom plow cuts underneath the soil, lifts it, and completely flips it upside down.

Stopped to grab a cup of coffee and take a break. I hope the wind will not be as strong as yesterday. It can be challenging when working outside. Some of the support wall rods for the raised beds. The rods have incorrect hole placements, complicating screw insertion. I hope this problem will improve in future boxes of raised beds. It is another gorgeous fall day.

Last night it was still warm as dusk settled in. I worked on assembling more of the raised beds for the North field. ❤

This morning, by the North field, dreaming about the planting of next year's crops.
Yesterday morning, Randall decided to finish filling the last 3 raised beds in the north field. I was busy inside, so he started spreading the dirt. I came out and finished so he could do the last couple of dirt loads. I finished before the drizzle turned to rain. We didn't receive much rain, just enough. Randall decided the Skrede field was too wet to plow the garlic fields.

Earlier in the week, Randall chopped weeds in the potato patches. Using the chopper in the Skrede fields, preparing the garlic patches for planting next year's 2027 garlic crop. He checked the failed onion patch; along the bottom row, he noticed some Walla Walla and Alisa Craig onions. He dug the onions. Yesterday I made French Onion soup, along with a chicken, wheat noodle, peppers, onions, and shallot salad. It helped warm us because of the chilly wind and drizzle we dealt with during the day

He will have a special garlic 6-pack featuring 17 varieties, some of which have a bit of heat: Applegate, Asian Tempest, Chesnok Red, Chrysalis Purple, German Red, Hirsch Colorado, Island Star, Krasnodar, Krattiger Red, Parvin, Pohoski, Purple Italian, Shilla, Silver Rose, Stull, Thai Fire, and Turkish Red. There will be 3 oz. bags of Yellow Moon shallots (3 oz.) and 1/2 # of Golden Dutch Shallots
We also offer regular dug potatoes: Adirondack Blue, Adirondack Red, Butterfly, Chieftain, Elba, German Butterball, Harvest Moon, Huckleberry Gold, Kennebec, Natasha, Nicola, Purple Majesty, and Red Port. You'll also find fingerling potatoes: Amarosa, Austrian Crescent, Fiesta Purple, Magic Molly, and Red Thumb. We will have the following bulk potatoes: 4 # bags for $6.00; save $2: Adirondack Blue, Chieftain, Harvest Moon, Natasha, and Nicola. This week we have 8 # bags for $10.00; $6: Harvest Moon and Chieftain. We also have our homemade salsas, BBQ sauce, jams, chutneys, and jellies. We grow all our produce sustainably, and our commitment to quality ensures you get the best possible products.

🍁😎Another pretty morning; we got an early start filling the raised beds. We finished the last raised bed in the first row. We started the 2nd row and finished this row around 3:30pm. Randall decided to start filling the raised beds in the 3rd row since there are only 3. I need to build more. Randall noticed Allis needed gas and hydraulic fuel, so we decided to stop on this project for now. So far, there are 16 raised beds in North Field.

🪏 What a pleasant fall day it is breezy here but it makes it comfortable. You can see fall is starting to appear in the landscape. Randall this morning cleaned the rest of the brush pile from the north field. Even though there was not much left. The plum branches are pain to deal with. We load the branches into the next raised beds to be filled. Love, we are going somewhere this project for next year’s crops. 🍂
