We take pride in offering you the best the bees have to offer. We are a family-owned and operated apiary located in Marshall VA. Our colonies are located in Fauquier county at our home and a few outyards (Hume, Delaplane, and Marshall). All our hives are managed exclusively by us. Our honey and wax products come directly from our hives, are completely raw and unprocessed. Members of the Buy Fresh Buy Local, northern Piedmont program.

As we head into the holiday and winter seasons, this is a great time to look back and appreciate those that make it all work. It truly is a team effort led by the wonderful, bubbly, one-and-only Natalie - thanks for all you do!
Our last market day of the season is here. 🥹🙁 We’re nearly sold out of our Fern Hill raw wildflower honey, but have plenty of wax products (blocks, candles, ‘bear turd’ fire starters, and beeswax food wraps) and honey sticks (16 flavors). If eggs are on your shopping list, we recommend coming early. Hope to see you today - it’s going to be a beautiful fall, sunny day.

While at a nearby grocery store today I happened to grab a jar of the honey they’re selling. This photo is of the nutritional facts label from that product. What did I notice?
A few key things to mention:
1. “Manufactured” in NJ
2. “Product of USA, Canada, Argentina & India”
You’re probably wondering ‘what does that mean, and why did it stand out to you’, right? Yup… I thought so.
Manufactured doesn’t mean the colonies are actually IN that location. It’s very likely that it’s being “bottled “ there. Having a product that has an origin list of 4 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES, is a huge 🚩 to me. The consumer really has no idea what’s in this bottle or where it’s from.
Did you know that honey is considered the 3rd most adulterated product available to consumers?! When you visit us at the Warrenton Farmers Market, you can ask us any questions about our bees, our colonies, how we manage, how we harvest, what nectar sources the bees visit, and anything else bee-related that you’re curious about.
We are a small, family-run business that takes great pride in offering our community a product that we know is RAW, PURE, LOCAL, and DELICIOUS. Even if you choose not to buy from us - if we’re sold out or you have another source - we will urge and encourage you to BUY LOCAL & KNOW YOUR BEEKEEPER.

As many of you are aware, the storms this past week greatly affected the Marshall area, which is where we are based. As of this post, we are still without power. Nevertheless, we will be at the Warrenton Farmers Market tomorrow, but with reduced inventory.** We will also be bringing some heirloom tomato plants. Spring is approaching; the bees are taking flights when the temps climb over 50*. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at the Warrenton Farmers Market again this season on alternating Saturdays.

Happy National Pollinator Week! We’ll be at the Warrenton Farmers Market this Saturday. Weather permitting, we’ll be bringing an observation hive to market. Come see the bees at work and try to find the queen.
Honey bees collect water to keep the colony cool: water is brought into the hive, and through evaporation, this helps keep the temperature down. Water is also needed for feeding developing bees. Every bee collecting water usually makes about 50 trips, each time collecting about 25 mg of water. When there is not enough water in the hive, then foraging worker bees will quit foraging and help with water collection. During very hot summer days, a colony may need several liters of water per day. 💧🐝

For thousands of years, humans have enjoyed eating honey produced by the humble honeybee. Recently, though, some beekeepers have started noticing something strange about the honey coming from their bee colonies. What began as a bad situation turned into something surprisingly good.

We're trying something new this year since we've had more requests lately for chunk honey. Mike 'seeded' these jars with wax, placed this modified inner cover (which has holes cut perfectly for the jars) in a colony with a hive body over top and an outer cover on that. The bees draw out the comb (you can see them festooning - comb building - in every jar in this short video); they'll fill each jar with fresh new comb, fill it with honey and cap it. Then when we harvest this year's crop, we'll fill the rest of the jar with raw honey. Yum!
While moving the swarm of the day, I took this quick video of the bees that chose to hitch-hike on my hand. First test of future beekeepers - can you stand to have them walk on you without flipping out? 🐝
As I'm watching the 3rd swarm settle down, the 4th takes off from a nearby colony. Buzzzzy day.
